Many patients have noticed that the modest application of heat to a fresh pimple helps clear the pimple or lesion. For years, adults and teenagers have used warm compresses, or warm wet compresses to try to 'bring a pimple to a head' and make it go away faster.
Several new handheld devices have been developed to simplify the heat application process. Two of the handheld devices are called Zeno and ThermaClear. Both apply a short burst of heat to a fresh pimple (the earlier the pimple stage the better). The method of action is unclear but the heat may cause early destruction of the acne causing bacteria, p.acnes. Studies of the devices and published data is very limited, other than on the manufacturers' websites.
