New Acne Grading System

A new acne grading system, developed by Japanese researchers, has been reported in Aesthetic Dermatology News
(Issue 4, Vol 3 July/August 2008)
The classification scheme was reported in the Journal of Dermatology 2008; 35:255-260
by investigators Hayashi, MD et al.
The classification suggests three categories, based on an evaluation of one-half of the face:
- up to five inflammatory lesions: Mild Acne
- 6-20 inflammtory lesions: Moderate Acne
- more than 50 inflammatory lesions: 'very Severe Acne'.
